The bill proposes the introduction of temporary licensure for anesthesiologist assistants in Florida, amending sections 458.3475 and 459.023 of the Florida Statutes. Under the new provisions, the Department of Health is required to issue a temporary license to applicants who meet specific criteria, including graduation from an approved anesthesiologist assistant program, submission of a completed application, and passing a background screening. The temporary license will be valid for up to 180 days, is nonrenewable, and will expire upon the applicant's passage or failure of the certification examination.
Additionally, the bill stipulates that temporary licensees can only practice under the direct supervision of a licensed anesthesiologist who has filed a written protocol with the Department of Health. The Board of Medicine and the Board of Osteopathic Medicine are tasked with adopting rules to implement these new licensing procedures and supervision requirements. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
