This bill amends section 1003.455 of the Florida Statutes to require district school boards to provide a minimum of 100 minutes of supervised, safe, and unstructured free-play recess each week for middle school students in grades 6 through 8. The amendment specifies that students must receive at least 20 consecutive minutes of free-play recess per day. Notably, this requirement does not extend to charter schools.

The effective date for this legislation is set for July 1, 2026. The bill reflects a shift in the current law by expanding the recess requirements from only including students in kindergarten through grade 5 to now also encompassing students in grade 6 through grade 8.
