This bill aims to enhance the management and reporting of advanced wastewater treatment in Florida. It establishes legislative findings that highlight the environmental risks posed by inadequately treated wastewater and aging sewage disposal facilities, particularly for those with a permitted capacity exceeding 1 million gallons per day. The bill mandates these facilities to submit detailed annual reports to the Department of Environmental Protection starting July 1, 2027. The reports must include information on construction years, treatment levels, pollutant concentrations, disposal methods, and any wastewater spills since 2010, among other data.
Additionally, the Department of Environmental Protection, in collaboration with water management districts and sewage disposal facilities, is required to compile and submit an annual report to the Governor and Legislature by December 31, 2027. This report will encompass similar data as required from the facilities, including the impairment status of receiving waterbodies and the implementation status of pollution reduction plans. The bill emphasizes the need for advanced wastewater treatment as a long-term investment to protect Florida's water resources and improve overall environmental quality. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
