This bill amends section 287.056 of the Florida Statutes to require the Department of Management Services to establish and maintain state term contracts specifically for building code inspection services. Additionally, it creates a new section, 468.634, which allows individuals to work in various building inspection roles during a declared state of emergency, provided they meet certain qualifications. These roles include positions such as building code inspector, electrical inspector, and plans examiner, among others.
Under the new provisions, individuals can act in these specified positions for up to one year following a state of emergency declaration by the Governor, as long as they have entered into a state term contract and are qualified based on criteria set forth in the bill. This includes having a valid license in another state for at least five years or being qualified under a mutual aid agreement. The bill is set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
