This bill amends section 486.021 of the Florida Statutes to exempt certain services from the requirement that a physical therapist must have a practitioner of record review and sign a treatment plan. Specifically, the bill allows physical therapists to implement treatment plans without this requirement when a patient has been examined and diagnosed by a physician licensed in another state for a condition requiring physical therapy. Additionally, the requirement is also waived for services aimed at health promotion, injury prevention, wellness, or fitness.
The bill clarifies that a physical therapist can develop and implement treatment plans independently, provided that the patient's condition is within the scope of physical therapy. The changes aim to streamline the process for physical therapists and enhance access to care for patients, particularly in cases where timely treatment is essential. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
