The bill amends the Linking Industry to Nursing Education Fund (LINE Fund) to address not only nursing shortages but also shortages in other health science professions. It defines "health science" and revises the definition of "student" to include those enrolled in health science education programs. The bill authorizes the fund to match contributions from both health care partners and other entities, provided the contributions support eligible purposes of the LINE Fund. Additionally, it designates the Department of Education as the lead entity responsible for identifying eligible programs and requires the department to use the State Board of Education's Career and Technical Education Health Science curriculum framework for this purpose.
Furthermore, the bill mandates the Department of Education to compile and publish a list of eligible health science programs by October 1, 2026, and to review and update this list annually. It also outlines how funds from the LINE Fund can be utilized, including for scholarships, faculty recruitment, and program expansion to meet workforce demands. The Office of Reimagining Education and Career Help is tasked with providing relevant workforce data to the department but is prohibited from determining program eligibility. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
