This bill amends section 110.12303 of the Florida Statutes to require the Department of Management Services to provide coverage for evidence-based strategies for the treatment and management of obesity and related conditions under state group health insurance plans issued on or after January 1, 2027. The coverage will include intensive health behavioral and lifestyle interventions as well as FDA-approved weight management medications. Importantly, the criteria for coverage of these medications cannot be more restrictive than the indications approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration. The department is also tasked with adopting specific protocols and criteria for this coverage by the same date.

Additionally, the bill outlines the requirements for employees to qualify for this coverage, including being enrolled in a state group health insurance plan, being 18 years or older, and having a clinical diagnosis of obesity from an in-network licensed provider. The department is required to submit an annual report to the Governor and the Legislature detailing participation levels and cost savings resulting from the implementation of these provisions. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
