This bill amends the composition of the Lee County Tourist Development Council by increasing the total number of members from nine to eleven. The new structure will include three elected municipal officials, with specific criteria for their selection based on the municipalities that generated the highest revenues from the tourist tax in the most recent fiscal year. The first municipal official will be from the most populous municipality, while the second will come from the municipality with the second highest revenue, and the third will be from another municipality. Additionally, the bill specifies that seven members will be individuals involved in the tourist industry, with a requirement that three to five of them are owners or operators of tourist accommodations.

The effective date for these changes is set for July 1, 2026, and the bill ensures that the current terms of existing council members will not be interrupted, except for the three municipal members appointed on the effective date. The bill retains the stipulation that all council members must be electors of Lee County and that the provisions of existing Florida statutes will still apply to the council, except as modified by this act.
