This bill amends section 1012.582 of the Florida Statutes to require the State Board of Education to adopt rules regarding the education of students with autism spectrum disorder, rather than allowing them the option to do so. Specifically, the new rules must mandate that K-12 teachers who instruct classes with at least 50 percent of students diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder hold an Autism Spectrum Disorder Endorsement.
Additionally, the bill provides for an exception to this endorsement requirement for teachers who possess an Endorsement in Severe or Profound Disabilities, have taught students with autism for a minimum of three years, and have received a highly effective rating in the preceding three years. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
