This bill establishes new continuing education requirements for health care practitioners in Florida, specifically focusing on maternal mental health. It creates a new section, 456.63, in the Florida Statutes, which mandates that the continuing education hours required for licensure renewal must include training on best practices for screening maternal mental health disorders, understanding the range of these disorders, exploring evidence-based treatment options, and knowing when to consult a psychiatrist.
Additionally, the bill requires that a board or the Department of Health, in the absence of a board, periodically update the curriculum to reflect new research and accept the completion of this curriculum as credit towards the continuing education requirements for practitioners in pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, psychiatry, or clinical psychology. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
