The bill establishes new continuing education requirements for health care practitioners related to maternal mental health, as outlined in the newly created Section 456.63 of the Florida Statutes. It mandates that the required continuing education hours for licensure renewal must include specific curriculum components, such as best practices in screening for maternal mental health disorders, understanding the range of these disorders, evidence-based treatment options, and guidelines for when to consult a psychiatrist.
Additionally, the bill requires that a board, or the Department of Health in the absence of a board, periodically update the curriculum to reflect new research and accept the successful completion of this curriculum as credit toward continuing education for practitioners in relevant specialties, including pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, psychiatry, and clinical psychology. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
