The proposed bill establishes a new section, 1006.149, in the Florida Statutes, which mandates that schools create and implement sexual violence policies and supportive measures. These policies must include clear reporting options for incidents of sexual violence, outline the rights of victims and offenders, and detail the investigation and disciplinary processes. Additionally, the policies must be written in accessible language and made available in frequently encountered languages to ensure that all students, parents, and staff can understand them. Schools are also required to provide information about designated contacts for reporting violations and local resources for victims.
Furthermore, the bill stipulates that schools must notify students, parents, staff, and volunteers about these policies through various means, including handbooks, direct communication, and postings in visible locations. For students under 18, notifications must also be sent to their parents. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
