This bill amends section 627.748 of the Florida Statutes to revise the automobile insurance requirements for transportation network companies (TNCs), TNC drivers, and vehicle owners. Key changes include the establishment of specific insurance coverage requirements for TNC drivers while they are logged onto the TNC's digital network or engaged in a prearranged ride. The bill introduces a new paragraph (c) that mandates insurance coverage of at least $50,000 for death and bodily injury per person, $100,000 per incident, and $25,000 for property damage when a TNC driver has accepted a prearranged ride but no rider is in the vehicle. Additionally, it specifies that TNCs must maintain required coverage unless the driver has a policy that meets the necessary conditions.
The bill also updates the insurance requirements for when a rider occupies the TNC vehicle, increasing the primary automobile liability coverage to at least $1 million. It clarifies that TNC drivers must carry proof of insurance at all times and provide this information in the event of an accident. The effective date for these changes is set for July 1, 2026.
