The bill amends section 1003.22 of the Florida Statutes, which pertains to school attendance immunizations. It updates the list of communicable diseases for which immunization is required for school attendance. The new requirements include immunizations for hepatitis B, chickenpox, haemophilus influenzae type b, and pneumococcal disease, in addition to existing requirements for poliomyelitis, diphtheria, rubeola, rubella, pertussis, mumps, and tetanus. The Department of Health is tasked with adopting rules for the immunization process, including procedures for exemptions, and ensuring that immunizations are available at no cost through county health departments.
The bill also stipulates that the Department of Health, in consultation with the Department of Education, will establish rules for the testing and control of preventable communicable diseases. The effective date for this act is set for July 1, 2026.
