The bill establishes a framework to enhance manufacturing in Florida by creating the position of Chief Manufacturing Officer within the Department of Commerce. This officer, appointed by the Secretary of Commerce, will oversee manufacturing efforts statewide, promote collaboration among various governmental and educational entities, and report on the manufacturing industry's strength and economic importance every two years. The bill also mandates that all state and local governmental entities assist the Chief Manufacturing Officer as needed, ensuring a coordinated approach to manufacturing initiatives.
Additionally, the bill introduces the Florida Manufacturers' Workforce Development Grant Program, aimed at funding projects that support small manufacturers and strengthen the workforce pipeline from education to employment. The program will be directed by the Chief Manufacturing Officer in consultation with the National Institute of Standards and Technology Manufacturing Extension Partnership. Furthermore, a Florida Manufacturing Promotional Campaign will be created to increase consumer awareness and market exposure for manufactured products, with participants required to register annually with the department. The department will also publish annual reports detailing the campaign's success and the projects funded through the grant program.
