This bill aims to enhance the manufacturing sector in Florida by establishing a Chief Manufacturing Officer within the Department of Commerce, who will be responsible for promoting and coordinating manufacturing efforts statewide. The Chief Manufacturing Officer will be appointed by the Secretary of Commerce and will oversee various initiatives, including collaboration with educational institutions to promote manufacturing careers and the development of strategic partnerships to support the manufacturing ecosystem. Additionally, the bill mandates that all state and local governmental entities assist the Chief Manufacturing Officer as needed, and requires the Department of Commerce to prepare and submit a report on manufacturing efforts to the Governor and Legislature every two years.
Furthermore, the bill creates the Florida Manufacturers Workforce Development Grant Program, which will provide funding for projects that support small manufacturers and enhance the manufacturing workforce pipeline. The program will be directed by the Chief Manufacturing Officer in consultation with the National Institute of Standards and Technology Manufacturing Extension Partnership organization. The bill also establishes the Florida Manufacturing Promotional Campaign to increase consumer awareness of manufacturing activities and promote manufactured products in the state. Participants in this campaign must register annually with the department, which will also be responsible for developing promotional materials and reporting on the campaign's success. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
