This bill amends section 409.903 of the Florida Statutes to enhance presumptive Medicaid eligibility for pregnant women. It authorizes specific entities, such as hospitals, federally qualified health centers, and nonprofit maternal and child health organizations, to serve as qualified Medicaid providers for making presumptive eligibility determinations. The Department of Children and Families is tasked with ensuring these providers are adequately trained and monitored for compliance. Additionally, the bill mandates that pregnant women deemed presumptively eligible will receive Medicaid coverage for all medically necessary services during their eligibility period, which is defined as the maximum allowable time under federal law or until a full eligibility determination is made.
Furthermore, the bill stipulates that all prior authorizations granted before or during the presumptive eligibility period will remain valid to ensure continuity of care. It requires the Agency for Health Care Administration to seek federal approval to extend the presumptive eligibility period to 180 days and to initiate necessary rulemaking within 60 days of the bill's enactment. The effective date of this act is set for July 1, 2026.
