This bill amends section 1009.265 of the Florida Statutes to require state universities and Florida College System institutions to waive tuition and fees for sheriff's office employees, in addition to existing provisions for state employees. The bill specifies that the waiver applies to up to 6 credit hours of courses per term on a space-available basis, contingent upon approval from the sheriff or equivalent authority. It also mandates the Chief Financial Officer to work with educational institutions to streamline the verification process for sheriff's office employment.

Additionally, the bill clarifies the definition of sheriff's office employees to include full-time sworn law enforcement officers, correctional officers, and civilian employees. The effective date for this act is set for July 1, 2026.
