This bill amends Florida Statutes to enhance the rights of crime victims within the criminal justice system. Specifically, it introduces new provisions that allow victims to refuse communication with the defendant's attorney and to require that the prosecutor be notified of and present during any communications between the defendant's attorney and the victim. These changes are incorporated into section 960.001, with the new rights being added as subsection (7).

Additionally, the bill revises the court's advisement to victims of their rights during arraignment, sentencing, or case-management proceedings. The updated announcement now includes the rights to refuse communication with the defendant's attorney and to have the prosecutor present during such communications, which are explicitly listed as new items (8) and (9) in section 960.0021. The bill is set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
