This bill amends Florida Statutes to provide an exemption from licensure requirements for certain volunteers who offer armed security services at places of worship. Specifically, it adds a new subsection to section 493.6102, stating that individuals who voluntarily provide armed security at churches, mosques, synagogues, or other religious institutions are not subject to the licensing requirements, provided they meet specific conditions. These conditions include having an approved armed security plan from the local sheriff's office, passing a level 2 background screening, holding a valid concealed weapon or firearm license, and ensuring that the services are rendered exclusively on the premises of the place of worship without receiving compensation.
Additionally, the bill reenacts a portion of section 493.6201 to incorporate the amendment made to section 493.6102, clarifying that those exempt from licensure under the new provision may still hold a Class C license for the purpose of obtaining a Class G license. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
