This bill provides for the financial relief of Patricia Ermini, who sustained severe injuries due to the negligence of the Lee County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) during a well-being check on March 23, 2012. The bill acknowledges the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the actions of the deputies involved and the subsequent legal proceedings that led to a jury awarding Ms. Ermini $750,000 in damages. However, due to statutory limits, only $200,000 was paid by the Florida Sheriffs Risk Management Fund, leaving a balance of $550,000 owed to Ms. Ermini, along with additional costs totaling $76,769.93.

To address this, the bill authorizes the Lee County Sheriff's Office to appropriate a total of $626,769.93 to compensate Ms. Ermini for her injuries and damages. It also stipulates that the amount paid by the Sheriff's Office, along with the previously awarded amount, is intended to cover all present and future claims related to the incident. Furthermore, the bill sets a cap on attorney fees, limiting them to no more than 25 percent of the total amount awarded. The act will take effect upon becoming law.
