This bill amends Florida law to allow direct-support professionals and relatives of clients in group home facilities for individuals with developmental disabilities to administer insulin as prescribed, provided certain conditions are met. It introduces a definition for "direct-support professional" and establishes a new section, 393.504, which outlines the requirements for insulin administration, including necessary training by qualified medical personnel and the establishment of policies and procedures by the group home facilities. The bill also provides immunity from civil liability for both the group home facilities and the individuals administering insulin, as long as they comply with the outlined regulations.
Additionally, the bill amends section 393.506 to permit unlicensed direct service providers to supervise self-administration of insulin and epinephrine, and it updates a cross-reference in section 1002.394 regarding the Family Empowerment Scholarship Program. The effective date for this act is set for July 1, 2025.
