The bill proposes the creation of a new section, 295.235, in the Florida Statutes, aimed at enhancing veterans' assistance programs. It mandates the Department of Veterans' Affairs to expand outreach efforts to connect veterans, their families, and survivors with available services, benefits, and support. This expansion is contingent upon an appropriation of $500,000 in nonrecurring funds, which will be used to enhance various outreach methods, including internet-based platforms, mobile applications, printed materials, social media, and in-person events.
Additionally, the bill requires the Department to host at least two public events each year to inform attendees about the benefits and services available to veterans, covering areas such as education, medical care, insurance, and disability benefits. An annual report must be submitted to the Governor and legislative leaders detailing the number of events held, attendance figures, and any other relevant information. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
