The bill amends section 1002.20 of the Florida Statutes to establish a new policy regarding anaphylaxis in public and charter schools serving students in kindergarten through grade 8. It mandates that each district school board and charter school governing board ensure that an adequate number of school personnel receive training on preventing and responding to allergic reactions, specifically anaphylaxis. This training must cover recognizing the signs of an anaphylactic reaction and administering an FDA-approved epinephrine delivery device. Additionally, the bill requires that emergency action plans for students with anaphylaxis remain effective and accessible at all times while the student is on school grounds or participating in school-sponsored activities.
Furthermore, the bill directs the State Board of Education, in consultation with the Department of Health, to adopt rules to implement this anaphylaxis policy, including the identification of an approved training curriculum, by October 1, 2025. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
