The bill mandates Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University to conduct an agronomic study on emerging agricultural crops in Florida, contingent upon legislative funding. The study aims to identify viable crops or products that could economically benefit growers utilizing current agricultural infrastructure on land previously taken out of production due to diseases and adverse weather conditions.
By December 1, 2025, the University is required to submit a comprehensive report to the Governor, the President of the Senate, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives. This report must include information on the environmental impact of each crop or product considered, an assessment of their suitability to Florida's climate, and recommendations for best practices to enhance the state's agricultural industry. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
