The bill amends section 1006.07 of the Florida Statutes to establish a comprehensive anaphylaxis policy for public schools. It mandates that each district school board ensure that emergency action plans for students with allergies are effective at all times while on campus, including during extracurricular activities and before- and after-school programs. Additionally, the bill requires that school personnel, as well as employees and contracted personnel of before- and after-school programs, receive training on preventing and responding to allergic reactions and anaphylaxis. At least one trained staff member must be present on school grounds to implement a student's emergency action plan, with specific training requirements including the administration of emergency epinephrine.
Furthermore, the bill authorizes the State Board of Education to adopt rules to facilitate the implementation of this anaphylaxis policy, including the identification of an approved training curriculum. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
