The bill proposes the creation of a "Save Coastal Wildlife" specialty license plate, as outlined in a new subsection (136) added to section 320.08058 of the Florida Statutes. The Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is tasked with developing the plate, which will feature specific design elements including the word "Florida" at the top, "Save Coastal Wildlife" at the bottom, and an image of an American flamingo.
Revenue generated from the sale of these license plates will be allocated to the Zoo Miami Foundation for the conservation of imperiled coastal wildlife and ecosystems in Florida. Up to 10% of the fees may be used for the plate's design, administrative costs, and marketing. The remaining funds will be distributed with 85% supporting programs at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Institute at Zoo Miami, and 15% going to eligible Florida-based nonprofit organizations focused on conserving native coastal wildlife. The act is set to take effect on October 1, 2025.
