This bill amends section 627.748 of the Florida Statutes to revise the automobile insurance requirements for transportation network company (TNC) drivers. It specifies that while a TNC driver is logged onto the digital network but not engaged in a prearranged ride, or is engaged in a prearranged ride without a rider in the vehicle, they must maintain a minimum automobile liability coverage of $50,000 for death and bodily injury per person, $100,000 per incident, and $25,000 for property damage. Additionally, personal injury protection benefits and uninsured/underinsured vehicle coverage are required. The coverage can be provided by the TNC driver, the TNC vehicle owner, or a combination of both.
When a TNC driver is engaged in a prearranged ride with a rider in the vehicle, the bill mandates a higher primary automobile liability coverage of at least $1 million for death, bodily injury, and property damage, along with personal injury protection benefits that meet limousine coverage standards. The same options for satisfying the coverage requirements apply as in the previous scenario. The bill is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
