The bill amends section 627.748 of the Florida Statutes to revise the automobile insurance requirements for transportation network company (TNC) drivers. It establishes that starting July 1, 2025, TNC drivers or the TNC on their behalf must maintain primary automobile insurance that recognizes their status as TNC drivers and covers them while logged onto the TNC's digital network or during a prearranged ride. New provisions are added to specify insurance requirements when a TNC driver has accepted a prearranged ride but the rider is not in the vehicle, including minimum liability coverage of $50,000 for death and bodily injury per person, $100,000 per incident, and $25,000 for property damage, as well as personal injury protection and uninsured/underinsured vehicle coverage.
Additionally, the bill outlines insurance requirements while a TNC driver is engaged in a prearranged ride with a rider in the vehicle, mandating a minimum liability coverage of $1 million. The TNC is required to maintain the necessary coverage unless the driver has a policy that meets the required standards. The bill also emphasizes that TNC drivers must carry proof of their insurance coverage at all times and provide this information in the event of an accident. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
