The bill mandates that state agencies update their geographic materials to reflect the new federal designation of the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America. Additionally, starting July 1, 2025, district school boards and charter school governing boards are required to adopt and acquire instructional materials and library media center collections that also reflect this new designation.
Furthermore, the bill designates a portion of U.S. 41, specifically between S.R. 60 and U.S. 1 in several counties including Miami-Dade, Collier, Lee, Charlotte, Sarasota, Manatee, and Hillsborough, as the Gulf of America Trail. The Department of Transportation is tasked with erecting suitable markers to signify this designation. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
