The bill amends Florida Statutes sections 1003.32 and 1006.07 to regulate the use of wireless communications devices on school grounds. It prohibits students from using these devices during the school day, rather than just during instructional time, and requires district school boards to establish rules regarding their use in specific locations or by certain students. The bill also removes the requirement for teachers to designate an area for wireless communications devices during instructional time.
Additionally, the bill introduces new provisions that allow for the use of wireless communications devices under certain conditions, such as with the express permission of a school administrator, or in accordance with a student's individualized education plan, 504 accommodation plan, or a doctor's note. The effective date for this act is set for July 1, 2025.
