The bill amends existing Florida statutes regarding the use of wireless communications devices on school grounds. It changes the prohibition of device usage from "instructional time" to "the school day," thereby extending the restriction to the entire school day. Additionally, it requires district school boards to establish rules for the use of these devices in specific locations or by certain students. The bill also removes the requirement for teachers to designate an area for wireless communications devices during instructional time.

Furthermore, the bill introduces new provisions that allow students to use wireless communications devices under certain conditions, such as with the express permission of a school administrator, or in accordance with their individualized education plan, 504 accommodation plan, or a doctor's note certifying the need for the device. The effective date for this act is set for July 1, 2025.
