This bill amends section 83.56 of the Florida Statutes to establish new requirements for landlords regarding the termination of rental agreements. Specifically, it introduces a new subsection (6) that mandates landlords to provide tenants who are pregnant or have children under 18 years of age at least three months to vacate the premises after delivering a written notice to terminate the rental agreement. This provision aims to offer additional protection to vulnerable tenants before landlords can initiate legal action for possession of the dwelling unit.
Additionally, subsection (6) is added while renumbering the existing subsection (6) to (7). The bill emphasizes the importance of considering the circumstances of tenants with children or who are expecting, thereby ensuring they have adequate time to find alternative housing. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
