The bill mandates the Office of Program Policy Analysis and Government Accountability (OPPAGA) to conduct comprehensive research and analysis regarding the compensation of legislators and Cabinet members in Florida. By December 1, 2025, OPPAGA is required to submit a detailed report to the Governor, the President of the Senate, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives. This report will include findings and recommendations on whether the Legislature should operate as a full-time, part-time, or hybrid body, as well as whether salary increases for legislators are warranted. The report must also provide comparative analyses of legislative salaries, per diem, travel expenses, and other allowances, alongside recommendations for potential salary adjustments.
Additionally, the bill requires OPPAGA to evaluate the appropriateness of salary increases for Cabinet members by comparing their compensation to that of Cabinet members in states with similar populations. The findings and recommendations for Cabinet members will also be included in the report due by the specified date. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
