This bill amends Florida Statutes regarding the purchase and transfer of firearms by lowering the minimum age for firearm purchases from 21 to 18 years. Specifically, it prohibits licensed importers, manufacturers, and dealers from selling or transferring firearms to individuals under 18 years of age. Additionally, the bill removes an exception that previously allowed law enforcement officers, correctional officers, and servicemembers to purchase rifles or shotguns regardless of age.

Furthermore, the bill revises the exceptions to the mandatory waiting period for purchasing rifles or shotguns. It eliminates the requirement for individuals to complete a 16-hour hunter safety course to bypass the waiting period, instead allowing the waiting period exemption upon successful completion of a background check. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
