This bill amends section 948.15 of the Florida Statutes to increase the probationary periods for certain misdemeanor offenses related to controlled or chemical substances. Specifically, it allows for a probation period of up to one year for defendants found guilty of misdemeanors where the use of a controlled substance, controlled substance analog, or chemical substance is a significant factor. Previously, the maximum probation period for misdemeanors was limited to six months unless otherwise specified by the court.

The bill also clarifies that probation supervision services for those convicted of misdemeanors involving possession of controlled substances or drug paraphernalia may be provided by licensed substance abuse education and intervention programs. This change aims to enhance the supervision and support for individuals on probation for substance-related offenses. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
