This bill establishes new provisions regarding chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy in Florida. It creates three new sections in the Florida Statutes—627.64198, 627.6614, and 641.31078—prohibiting health insurers and health maintenance organizations from refusing to contract with or denying coverage for CAR-T therapy provided by certified health care facilities. These provisions apply to any health insurance policy or group health insurance policy issued, delivered, or renewed on or after January 1, 2026, that includes coverage for CAR-T therapy.
The bill ensures that any provider qualified under the Food and Drug Administration's procedures for CAR-T product licensing and included in the insurer's provider network for other services cannot be denied coverage for administering CAR-T therapy. This legislation aims to enhance access to CAR-T therapy for patients by mandating that insurers and health maintenance organizations recognize and cover certified providers. The act is set to take effect on January 1, 2026.
