This bill amends section 921.141 of the Florida Statutes to introduce a new aggravating factor for capital felonies. Specifically, it adds that a capital felony committed against the head of a state, such as the President or Vice President of the United States or a state governor, will be considered an aggravating factor. Additionally, if a capital felony is committed in an attempt to target the head of state, and another individual is harmed in the process, this will also qualify as an aggravating factor.

The new legal language specifies that this addition will be included as paragraph (q) in subsection (6) of the existing statute. The bill is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
