This bill amends Florida Statutes sections 627.6686 and 641.31098 to revise the definitions of "autism spectrum disorder" and "eligible individual" in relation to health insurance coverage for individuals with developmental disabilities. The term "autism spectrum disorder" is now defined as having the same meaning as in the most recent edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, replacing the previous definition that listed specific disorders. Additionally, the definition of "eligible individual" has been modified to remove age restrictions, allowing for broader inclusion of individuals diagnosed with developmental disabilities.
The bill also reenacts sections 409.906 and 943.1727 to incorporate the amendments made to section 627.6686. It outlines optional Medicaid services for individuals with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities, including home and community-based services, with a cap on annual and lifetime benefits. Furthermore, it establishes a continued employment training component for law enforcement related to autism spectrum disorder, ensuring that training includes recognition and appropriate responses to individuals exhibiting symptoms of the disorder. The act is set to take effect on January 1, 2026.
