This bill provides for the financial relief of Jacob Rodgers, who sustained severe injuries due to the negligence of an employee of the City of Gainesville. The bill acknowledges that on October 7, 2015, Mr. Rodgers was involved in an accident caused by a City vehicle that ran a stop sign, resulting in catastrophic injuries that left him paraplegic. Following a jury trial that found the City 100% at fault, a settlement was reached, and the City of Gainesville is now authorized to appropriate $10.8 million to compensate Mr. Rodgers for his injuries and damages.

The bill includes several key provisions: it declares the facts stated in the preamble to be true, authorizes the City to draw a warrant for the compensation amount, and stipulates that the total compensation, including the statutory limit previously paid, is intended to cover all present and future claims related to the incident. Additionally, it limits the attorney fees associated with this claim to a maximum of 25% of the total amount awarded under the act. The bill will take effect upon becoming law.
