This bill establishes the Statewide Office of Manufacturing within the Department of Commerce, headed by a Chief Manufacturing Officer appointed by the Secretary of Commerce. The office's responsibilities include promoting and coordinating manufacturing efforts, providing strategic direction for initiatives, and engaging with various governmental entities to align manufacturing priorities. Additionally, the bill mandates that all state and local governmental entities assist the Chief Manufacturing Officer, and it requires the Department of Commerce to prepare a biennial report on manufacturing efforts in Florida, detailing the industry's strength and economic importance.
Furthermore, the bill creates the Florida Manufacturers Workforce Development Grant Program, which aims to support small manufacturers in adopting new technologies and enhancing workforce training. The program will prioritize innovative projects and will be administered by the Department of Commerce from the Economic Development Trust Fund. Additionally, the bill introduces the Florida Manufacturing Promotional Campaign to increase consumer awareness and market exposure for manufactured products in the state. Participants in this campaign must register annually, and the Department of Commerce is authorized to adopt rules for its implementation, including the establishment of logos for promotional use. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
