The updated definition specifies that a "building official" is an individual responsible for administering and enforcing the Florida Building Code, who must now possess a Florida Building Code Administrator certification and be serving in a municipality or the county. The previous requirement for the individual to be a full-time employee of the municipality or county has been removed, allowing for greater flexibility in the role.

Additionally, the bill changes the terminology regarding the district from which the building official is nominated. The term "election district" has been replaced with "commission," and the phrasing has been adjusted to clarify that the building official is nominated from the respective commission district. This act will take effect upon becoming law.
