The bill amends the My Safe Florida Condominium Pilot Program by revising the definition of "condominium" to exclude detached units on individual parcels of land. It limits participation in the program to condominiums that are three stories or more in height and require that the structure must include at least one residential unit. Additionally, the bill modifies the approval requirements for associations applying for mitigation grants, changing the necessary approval from a unanimous vote to at least 75 percent of unit owners who reside within the building.
Furthermore, the bill removes specific funding amounts previously designated for certain projects and instead establishes a matching grant system where associations must provide $1 for every $2 provided by the state towards the actual cost of the project. It also expands the types of improvements eligible for grant funding, including various roof-related enhancements and opening protections, while ensuring that all improvements comply with current building codes. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
