The bill amends section 429.177 of the Florida Statutes to define "memory care services" and establish standards for memory care providers. It requires facilities that advertise as memory care providers to meet specific operational standards, including developing policies for admittance criteria and maintaining accurate resident logs. Additionally, resident contracts must detail the memory care services provided and any associated costs. The bill also mandates that memory care facilities notify a licensed physician of any significant changes in a resident's condition and ensures that at least one trained staff member is present at all times to provide care.
Furthermore, the bill repeals section 429.178, which previously addressed special care for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related disorders, and creates section 430.71, establishing the Florida Alzheimer's Center of Excellence. This center aims to support individuals with Alzheimer's and their caregivers by connecting them with community resources and providing educational materials. The center will conduct caregiver assessments, create personalized care plans, and track outcomes related to caregiver support. Eligibility for services from the center is contingent upon the caregiver's residency in Florida and their goal of providing in-home care for the individual with dementia. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
