The bill amends section 429.177 of the Florida Statutes to define "memory care services" and establish standards for memory care providers. It requires facilities that advertise as memory care providers to meet specific operational standards, including developing policies for admittance criteria and care services, maintaining a log of residents receiving memory care, and ensuring staff availability at all times. Additionally, resident contracts must detail the memory care services provided and any associated costs. The bill also mandates that facilities notify physicians of changes in residents' conditions related to dementia or memory disorders and assist in coordinating necessary care.

Furthermore, the bill repeals section 429.178, which pertains to special care for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related disorders, and creates section 430.71, establishing the Florida Alzheimer's Center of Excellence. This center aims to support individuals with Alzheimer's and their caregivers by connecting them with community resources and providing education and assistance. The center will conduct caregiver assessments, create personalized care plans, and track outcomes related to caregiver support. Eligibility for services from the center is contingent upon the caregiver being a resident of Florida and having a person in their household diagnosed with or suspected of having Alzheimer's or a related form of dementia. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
