The bill amends section 489.105 of the Florida Statutes to revise the definitions of "commercial pool/spa contractor," "residential pool/spa contractor," and "swimming pool/spa servicing contractor." Key changes include the expansion of the scope of work for commercial pool/spa contractors to encompass all phases of construction, repair, renovation, remodeling, deconstruction, and servicing of various water features, including swimming pools, spas, splash pads, and decorative water features. The bill also clarifies that the scope of work for residential pool/spa contractors is similar to that of commercial contractors but excludes the construction of new commercial facilities.

Additionally, the bill specifies that swimming pool/spa servicing contractors will have a broader scope of work that includes the installation, repair, or replacement of equipment, as well as various maintenance tasks. Notably, the bill removes certain restrictions regarding the need for licensure for specific tasks, such as cleaning and maintenance that do not affect the structural integrity of the water features. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
