The bill establishes a new requirement for health care professionals licensed under specific chapters of Florida law to complete a 2-hour continuing education course focused on sickle cell disease care management as part of their biennial licensure or certification renewal. This course will cover various aspects of sickle cell disease, including treatment protocols, patient education, psychosocial care, and pain management. Licensees must submit confirmation of course completion when renewing their licenses, and the relevant licensing boards may approve additional equivalent courses to fulfill this requirement. Furthermore, health care practitioners holding multiple licenses can satisfy the requirement with proof of completion of just one course.
The bill also outlines disciplinary actions for non-compliance with the new educational requirement, which will be enforced under the respective practice acts. Each licensing board is authorized to adopt rules to implement these provisions. The effective date for this act is set for July 1, 2025.
