The bill establishes a new requirement for health care professionals licensed under specific chapters of Florida law to complete a 2-hour continuing education course on sickle cell disease care management as part of their biennial licensure or certification renewal. This course will cover various aspects of sickle cell disease, including treatment protocols, patient education, psychosocial care, and pain management. Licensees must submit confirmation of course completion when renewing their licenses, and the relevant licensing boards may approve equivalent courses to fulfill this requirement. Additionally, practitioners holding multiple licenses can satisfy the requirement with proof of completion of just one course.

Failure to comply with this new requirement will result in disciplinary action under the respective practice acts, and the licensee will be mandated to complete the course. The bill also allows the appropriate boards to adopt rules to implement these provisions. The effective date for this legislation is set for July 1, 2025.
