This bill amends section 1003.433 of the Florida Statutes to provide new graduation requirements for students enrolled in the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program. Specifically, it allows students who have been in the ESOL program for less than two school years and have met all other requirements for a standard high school diploma, except for passing the Algebra I end-of-course assessment, to fulfill this requirement in a different manner.
Beginning with the 2025-2026 school year, these students may meet the Algebra I assessment requirement by satisfactorily demonstrating grade-level expectations on formative assessments, as outlined by state board rule. The bill is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
