This bill amends Florida Statutes to expand the concealed carry licensing requirements for law enforcement officers, correctional officers, correctional probation officers, and military servicemembers. It specifies that correctional probation officers are permitted to carry concealed firearms during off-duty hours at the discretion of their superior officers and allows them to perform certain law enforcement functions under limited circumstances. The bill also revises the definitions of "qualified law enforcement officer" and "qualified retired law enforcement officer" to include correctional probation officers. Additionally, it mandates that if a superior officer from the Department of Corrections decides to allow officers to carry concealed firearms off-duty, they must file a statement with the governing body of the department outlining the instructions and requirements.
Furthermore, the bill amends the waiting period for firearm purchases by revising the exceptions to the mandatory 3-day waiting period. It defines the term "holder of a concealed weapons or concealed firearms license" to include individuals with valid licenses, as well as law enforcement and correctional officers, and servicemembers. The bill also clarifies the definitions of "purchase" and "retailer" in relation to firearm sales. The effective date for this act is set for July 1, 2025.
