The bill amends Section 472.013 of the Florida Statutes to establish a new temporary alternative pathway to licensure for surveyors and mappers, known as the 1st Step Florida Surveyors and Mappers Credentialing and Licensing Protocol. This protocol allows individuals who do not meet the traditional degree requirements to take the licensure examination if they have good moral character and meet specific criteria, including having worked as a subordinate to a licensed surveyor or mapper for at least four years and providing a letter of recommendation from a licensed professional. Licenses granted under this protocol will expire on December 15, 2031, and applicants will be required to complete a minimum of 20 semester hours in relevant subjects to continue practicing after that date.

Additionally, the bill reenacts subsection (4) of Section 472.015 to incorporate the amendments made to Section 472.013, ensuring that the Board of Professional Surveyors and Mappers certifies applicants who meet the new requirements. The effective date for this act is set for July 1, 2025. The bill aims to address the increasing demand for licensed surveyors and mappers in Florida by providing a more accessible pathway to licensure.
