This bill amends existing Florida law regarding cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training in schools and establishes new requirements for cardiac emergency response plans. Specifically, it revises the instruction requirements for CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) use for students in grades 6, 8, 9, and 11, ensuring that training is based on a nationally recognized program. The bill removes the previous stipulation that CPR instruction is contingent upon the availability of necessary equipment in schools.

Additionally, the bill creates a new section, 1003.457, which mandates that each public school develop a cardiac emergency response plan (CERP) to address incidents of sudden cardiac arrest on school grounds. Schools are required to collaborate with local emergency service providers to integrate their CERP into community emergency protocols. The legislation also outlines requirements for AED placement and mandates that designated school staff receive training in first aid, CPR, and AED use, following guidelines set by the American Heart Association. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
