The bill amends Florida Statutes to remove specific requirements regarding the start times for middle and high schools. It deletes the obligation for district school boards to adopt policies governing these start times, including the stipulation that instructional days for middle schools must begin no earlier than 8 a.m. and for high schools no earlier than 8:30 a.m. Additionally, the bill eliminates the requirement for school boards to inform the community about the impacts of sleep deprivation on students and the benefits of later start times, as well as to discuss strategies for implementing such changes.

Furthermore, the bill amends the statutes governing charter schools by removing the requirement for certain charter schools to comply with the same start time regulations that apply to district schools. This change grants charter schools more flexibility regarding their operational schedules. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
