The bill establishes a new requirement for continuing education related to sickle cell disease for certain healthcare professionals in Florida. Specifically, it mandates that individuals licensed or certified under chapters 458, 459, or part I of chapter 464 must complete a 2-hour course on sickle cell disease care management as part of their first licensure or certification renewal. The course will cover various aspects of sickle cell disease, including evidence-based treatment protocols, patient and family education, comprehensive evaluations, psychosocial care, genetic counseling, and pain management. Licensees must submit proof of course completion when renewing their licenses, and the appropriate boards may approve additional equivalent courses to meet this requirement.

Furthermore, the bill allows for the inclusion of the course hours in the total continuing education hours required for the respective professions, provided that the total does not fall below 30 hours biennially. It also stipulates that individuals holding multiple licenses can use the same course to satisfy the requirements for all their licenses. Non-compliance with this new requirement will result in disciplinary action and the obligation to complete the course. The bill is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
