The bill amends sections 379.206 and 379.209 of the Florida Statutes to revise the management and use of trust funds for wildlife conservation. It removes the requirement for the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to designate a specific unit to administer the Nongame Wildlife Trust Fund. The bill also expands the purposes for which the proceeds from this trust fund can be used, now explicitly including law enforcement among other conservation and educational activities.
Additionally, the bill updates the Grants and Donations Trust Fund to clarify that it will serve as a depository for funds from various sources, including grants and donations, while eliminating the reference to "restricted contractual" revenue. The commission is now authorized to enter into agreements with private landowners and other entities to enhance the coordination of nongame wildlife programs. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
